Abstract |
A documentary film about the effect the shoah had on the so-called second generation. When ”Benzin’s”soloist - Yehuda Poliker - stood onstage, he created a new wave in Israeli rock. The man who discovered Poliker and his band was Yaakov Gilad. Even after ”Benzin” broke up, he and Poliker continued to work together - writing and composing and producing records and performances of rare quality. Poliker is of Greek origins, from a simple, warm family from a small town. Gilad, from the big city, absorbed culture from early childhood from his mother, the writer and poet Helina. She was 10 years old when the Germans conquered Warsaw. She was sent to the gas chambers, but was saved at the last moment. Yehuda’s father Zako was sent from Saloniki to an extermination camp; his wife and son were torn from him and murdered. Yehuda and Yaakov grew up with their parents’ memoires, and channelled the terror into creativity. |
