Abstract |
Dwight Houston is an airman from Texas who ferries warplanes from the US to England. While hiding out in a London air-raid shelter, Houston meets Leonera Perrycoate, a proper, well-mannered English girl who has learned to expect the most formal of behavior from men. Houston, with his Texas twang, is completely foreign to her, but he does manage to win her. When the skies clear, Houston and Perrycoate set out to have themselves a carefree time, but obstacles get in their way. Peter Walmsley, Houston's rival for Perrycoate's affections--a very proper Royal Navy commander--consistently makes a crowd of their twosome. Houston's former wife, Gerry Houston, also pops up. They take a trip to neutral Lisbon, where they get ensnarled in a spy ring. It's up to them to crack it, which they do before Dwight Houston proposes to Perrycoate and invites her to return to America with him. |
