Abstract |
The German soldier Wilhelm Grimm is crippled during WWI. He returns to his home along the German-Polish border and resumes teaching school. Slowly he grows embittered with his life and becomes involved with hateful ideologies that cause his fiancee Marja Pacierkowski to leave him. After sexually assaulting one of his female students, Grimm is banished from his village. He joins the Nazi party and soon rises to power. He returns home once more, this time as a Nazi commandant and creates a wave of terror in the village. |
