Abstract

Karl Bruner is brought up in the Nazi spirit, growing up to be a Gestapo officer. Karl is in love with Anna Muller with whom he was friends as a child and who now suffers under Nazi rule. Although born and bred in Germany, Anna is an American. She stubbornly resists every attempt made to get her to join the Nazis. Since she is considered unsuitable for providing the Führer with offspring, she is to be sterilized. Bruner`s superiors, who gradually comes to doubt their own convictions, put him to the test by putting him on the case of the woman he loves. When he wants to warn Anna of being publically whipped, he ends up in court. During the trial he does not shy from his actions and denjounces the Nazis. Karl and Anna are shot dead.
